Location:
North Lincolnshire is an area of around
85,000 hectares based along the Humber Estuary on the East Coast of
England. The area has a population of 152,000 and a workforce of
66,000. North Lincolnshire is largely agricultural and the pattern of
settlements reflects this, with attractive market towns surrounded by
many small villages. An important exception to this is the substantial
urban and industrial centre of Scunthorpe, which is built around the
steel industry. The town serves much of North Lincolnshire in terms of
jobs, colleges, shopping and leisure facilities. |
 |

Transportation Services:
Major investment has left the region with an excellent motorway
network, allowing fast access to a potential market of 40 million UK
customers and suppliers within a four-hour drive. The free flowing M180
and M18 motorways connect North Lincolnshire to the M62 trans-Pennine
east/west route and the A1 and M1 north-south routes.
|
Proximity to the UK's largest ports complex - the Humber Ports -
provides unrivalled access to mid and Northern European markets. The
complex handles in excess of 84 million tonnes of cargo a year, the
largest single share in the UK. Deep-sea facilities allow the landing
of cargoes 24 hours a day, servicing 53 countries. Fast overnight
crossings mean hauliers can drive into the heart of mainland Europe
within their time allowance. For importers 75% of the UK's
manufacturing capacity can be accessed within a four hour drive. |

The Humber Ports –
the UK’s largest ports complex |
The local rail freight terminal
for the Channel Tunnel is only 20 miles away allowing excellent rail
access to mainland Europe. Normanby Enterprise Park and Humber Bridge
Industrial Estate offer the opportunity of direct rail connections.
Humberside International Airport with a 30-minute check in time has
flights to Scotland and Amsterdam for transfers to the rest of the
world. The airport is one of the fastest growing regional airports in
the UK, carrying 500,000 passengers per year, with a growing freight
service. Close by is the Robin Hood Doncaster Sheffield Airport, whilst
a further three international airports are within a 2 hour drive at
Manchester, Leeds/Bradford and East Midlands.

Major Industries in the Area:
The area is particularly attractive to the food, chemical,
biofuel, engineering, metals and manufacturing sectors due to existing supply
chains, expertise and infrastructure. The food and drink industry covers the
whole food chain from agriculture to manufacturing, processing and retail
distribution. The chemical and allied industry benefit from the nearby CATCH
centre (Centre for the Assessment of Technical Competence Humber), the first of
its kind in the country to open. The centre undertakes competency assessments,
upskilling and has the potential to assist companies with emergency shutdown and
response procedures, certification, licensing and safety passports. Biofuels are
ideally placed on the South Humber Bank with good transport links, access to the
appropriate feed stocks - grown locally and imported and sufficient numbers of
customers. Helius Energy plc has already secured a site for a renewable energy
power station and Greenergy Biofuels Ltd is completing a £13.5 million biodiesel
production plant at Immingham due to commence operations later this year. Each
cluster has proactive networking opportunities, training, specialist support
companies and experienced employees. In addition, the two local colleges are
recognised nationally as centres of excellence with valuable links to the
business community.
