Overview:
Scotland has a long-standing culture of innovation, a well-earned reputation for
outstanding research, a skilled workforce and a commitment to economic growth.
The Financial Times Group named Scotland as one of the best places in Europe to
do business. The larger Scottish cities include the capital Edinburgh, Glasgow,
Aberdeen, Dundee, Inverness and Stirling, but there are many other towns of
interest. The 2014 Commonwealth Games will take place in Glasgow.
Penicillin, antiseptic, anaesthesia, television and the telephone were all
invented and developed in Scotland and this tradition of innovation continues
today. To date around 1,500 leading global companies, including Amazon, 02, Dell
and Wyeth have invested in Scotland.
“Life sciences research in Scotland, particularly in the stem cell area,
is recognised internationally.”
Mats Lundwall, CEO, Cellartis
